War Department, June 19. 1799. Sir, On the 15^th November last, Ebenezer Stevens was requested to procure Woollen Overalls for the Troops in the Harbour of New York and at West point. He writes me under date of yesterday, "I received "a letter from William Simmons Esq^r Accountant of the War Office, in "which he informed me that my Account for supplying Overalls was not "passed to the credit of my account. I will esteem it a favor if you will "have that business settled." If this account can be settled by the purveyor with more propriety in the first instance than in your Office, it will be proper to inform M^r Stevens of the course he is to pursue, and should any information to the purveyor be necessary to enable him to settle it, to give it to him. If it is a difficulty in your Office that prevents its being admitted you will be pleased to inform M^r Stevens of the same, that it may be removed.
