Dear Sir
I have recieved your letter of the 12th inst. I am sincerely sorry to find our friend is no more. He was generous, kind, and honest. I shall be glad to have his account with the public adjusted. I hope you will be able to attend to it very shortly, as I stay my report to prevent unnecessary trouble which may happen through mistakes in a business of so long standing. I know of no contracts for castings, making at present, but I will enquire of the Secretary of the Army about Rutledge, and let you know the result in my next communication.
