Pittsburg 14 June 1799.
Sir,
I have received your letter of the 7 instant which appears to have respect to Settlement of Accounts arising in the Ordnance department, generally by the Quarter Master General. I shall accordingly apply to him for Settlement of the Ordnance Accts &c. and shall direct Doctor Scott to apply for Settlement of his Medicine Acct to the accountant of the War Dept.
The Paymaster General arrived here on the 10th having in charge a large Sum in Specie, and as I had deferred making a Requisition to the War Office for money for Pay Subsistence & Forage &c for the Troops stationed at Presq'isle and Fort Fayette I applied to the Pay Master General and have received this day of him the amount of the enclosed Estimate for Pay, Subsistence & Forage, and also for recruiting Service Viz 2776 40/100 — together with 223 51/100 Dollars in addition — in order to make the Payment convenient to Mr Swan and have therefore this day drawn on you in favour of Caleb Swan Esqre at Eight days sight for three thousand dollars which pray be pleased to direct to be placed to his credit & charged to me.
