The Secretary of War has issued a Warrant for
five thousand Dollars in favor of Samuel Swan Dept Clerk at
the War Office, to be by him transmitted to you on account of
the Subsistence of the Army, for which Sum you will please
to furnish your duplicate receipts to him holding yourself
accountable accordingly —

by a muster & pay roll of the Detachment under your command
for the months of April & May 1799 amounting to your
Statement To Dolls 342. —
to which has been added:
Pay of John Stewart 8th Infy 6th Jany to 31 May 30 23. 74
Dolls 371. 74
Amounting to Three hundred Seventy one Dollars & 3/4 where-
from has been [undecipherable] [undecipherable] who is to be held accountable
for the [undecipherable] application thereof.
On reference to the muster rolls of Capt [undecipherable]
Company, it appears that the above named John Stewart enlisted
on the 1st Novr 1797 to serve for 3 years, [undecipherable] his Statement
dated 26 June 1798. [undecipherable] you know of any expence the United States
have been at on his account you will deduct the amount thereof
from his pay —
