Sir,
I have received your letter of the 20th With enclosing the receipt bill for pay of your Detachment for the month of March 1799 which has been examined for correct - amounting to One hundred eighty three Dollars 40/100 which sum will be paid to your order on the Books of this Office —
In respect to the reasons known by you or all have servant, no reason can be had contradictory to the one expressed of — that it is not contemplated by law that our Officer should draw returns for servants, since that a regular soldier, as in that one there is no reference to the Muster has as he would, were he not a servant, a man his rations in common with the other soldiers in the line — you will therefore consider yourself chargeable as pointed out in my letter of the 6 April last —
