Quincy June 2^d 1799 [7.3] Sir I return the Troop lists as you desire, a year of the 29^th Chl. Hodge and have recommended as note their officers are wholly unknown to me. I am induced to give great attention to the recommendation of the troops the Senator and G^l Taylor but if there is any considerable difference of sentiment about the appointment, among the gentlemen of Connecticut, I hope I must ever to unite to, preserve. Doubtful to be opinion I will leave it however to your g[reat] assignment is fully adapted, to appoint those upon which the troops D[?] rule shall recommend, provided there are not other recommendations equally respectable I am numerous for one others. Rough it is prudent to consult friends I dont think those decisions should always be mine he at War. till great regards
