Gen^l Sir I have reciev'd your letter dated the 23^d Inst^t covering Abstract N^o 27 of disbursements in the Quarter Master Department accompanied with vouchers which shall be subjected to the proper examination — I am &^c W Simmons Acct. --- Griffin <H.> McRea Esq^re Collector of the Revenue Wilmington N. C. June 1, 1799 Sir I herewith inclose you the form of a bond & Oath of office to be completed to your satisfaction by the pay master of the 6^th Reg^t of Infantry commanded by L^t Col^l James Read previous to his entering on the duties of his Office, the act of Congress of the 3^d day of March last making it necessary — When these shall be executed as are from you, you are requested to return them to this Office — I also inclose you such Instructions directed to the Pay master to which I request you will annex his name when it shall have been ascertained and deliver it to him — At times I think our this Office has forwarded the sum of Eight Thousand one hundred & forty eight Dollars, on account of the pay & recruiting of the said Regiment, under what [strikethrough: to] you which sum you will receive directions to pay to the Pay master thereof when he shall have executed the Bond & office oaths — To all of which your attention is particularly requested — I am y^r W Simmons Acct.
