Sir,
Inclosing you have a draft on the Bank with you for Twentyfour Dollars and fifty seven Cents, as repayment of the following sums, viz Twentyfour Dollars ninety on account Twentyfive Dollars & thirtyfour cents paid McLean as per my order, Dr Twentyeight Dollars and Seventythree Cents paid him for after services under your own order— These several sums add to 7570 Dollars, but an errour of fifty Cents is discovered in your settlement with him, which being deducted leaves the sum clear mentioned in the check — This errour arises in bringing the Pounds, Shillings and pence into Dollars; thus £11.6.10. is called 2873/100 Dollars instead of 2323/100 Dollars:— As you can rectify the mistake any hour I have made the directions for the sake of accuracy — your friend Schmerhorn dined with me yesterday; he is indeed a fine youth; we are as highly pleased with him; polite, sensible and very very agreeable; I shall always be glad to see him at my House when any circumstance of business or pleasure brings him to the city — Make our respects to Mrs Stevens and the family—
your Sincerely —
Col. Ebenezer Stevens Samuel Hodgdon —
Philadelphia, 30th May 1799.
