Philadelphia, 29 May 1799 Sir, Enclosing you have a draft on the Bank with you for Twenty four Dollars and fifty seven Cents, as repayment of the following sums, viz Twenty four Dollars eleven or twelve Twentyfour Dollars & thirtyfour cents paid M^cLean as per my order, D^o twenty eight Dollars and Seventythree cents paid him for after services under your own order— These several sums amount to 75⁷⁹/₁₀₀ Dollars, but an error of fifty cents is discovered in your settlement with him, which being deducted leaves the sum above mentioned in the check— This error arises in bringing the Pounds, Shillings and pence into Dollars; thus £11.6.10. is called 28⁷⁵/₁₀₀ Dollars, instead of 28²⁵/₁₀₀ Dollars:— As you can rectify the mistake any hour I have made the destruction for the sake of accuracy— your friend Schamerhorne dined with me yesterday; he is indeed a fine youth; we are as highly pleased with him; polite, sensible and every very agreeable; I shall always be glad to see him at my House when any circumstance of business or pleasure brings him to the city— Make our respects to M^rs Stevens and the family. your Sincerely — Col.
