Jonathan Jackson Esq^r Sup^r of Boston Accountants Office May 29 '1799 Sir I have to request your attention to the completion of another bond & Oath of Office, of a Pay master, agreeably to that forwarded to you in my letter of the 6^th Instant, for which purpose I inclose you the necessary forms, and a letter directed to the Pay master of the 15^th Reg^t of Infantry commanded by Lieut^t Coll^e. Rich^d Hunnewell. Having no information of his appointment, I cannot insert his name in the Instructions, to this you are requested to attend previous to its delivery. — When they are completed you are requested to forward them to this Office — I am &c M. May 29 '1799 Paymaster to the 15^th Reg^t of Inf^y. commanded by L^t Coll^e Rich^d Hunnewell Sir You being appointed Paymaster to the 15^th Reg^t of Infantry commanded by Lieut^t Colle. Richard Hunnewell, it is proper that you should be furnished with the necessary Instructions to guide you in your duties. The Paymaster General (whose duty it is to furnish them) being absent from the seat of Government, I will proceed to state such as the payments you are now about to make may require, and will furnish from time to time any additional Instructions, which your subsequent payments may make necessary — The Law of the 3^d march last provides that the several Regimental Paymasters shall give bond in the sum of 5000 Dollars, with one or more sufficient securities & take an Oath for the faithfull discharge of the duties of their offices respectively. — I have accordingly transmitted to Jonⁿ Jackson Supervisor Boston a blank bond conditioned as above mentioned and a form of an Oath to be taken by you, both those Instruments are to be completed previous to your entering on the duties of your Office as Paymaster. This being done to his Satisfaction he will pay you the sum of Four thousand six hundred & twenty eight Dollars being the amount of an Estimate for four Months pay & forage of the Officers of the aforementioned Regiment, for which you will give him the necessary receipts, holding yourself accountable to the Accountant of the War Department. I inclose you a copy of said Estimate for your government. You will also receive the sum of Three thousand five hundred & twenty Dollars, on account of the Recruiting service, to be distributed agreeably to your orders, for which you will likewise grant your duplicate receipts — In making your payments you will be carefull in taking duplicate receipts for each, holding the Officer accountable to the Accountant of the War Depart^t one sett of which is to be transmitted to this Office accompanied by an account Current, stating the amount received & the payments made to each Officer, numbering the receipts agreeably to the entry in the account — the other sett you will withhold in your posession as vouchers for your government, when the Officers shall be called upon for a settlement, for the balance remaining in your hands
