I mentioned to Mr Wilson my intention of opening and closing the several Store Accounts which I supposed necessary to be kept in the Quarter Master Generals Department, but, on reflection I have thought that a statement pointing directly to present transactions would be more easily understood. The bearer will forward it to you, and give any explanation that may be required.

This moment your lines of the 23d Ultimo in answer to mine of the 16th is just put into this my hands — I am truly sorry to receive the information you give me of the indisposition of Mr Pasch. His situation will certainly be admitted as a sufficient apology for your not entering immediately into the merits of the business between him and the United States — I submit you have not fully considered some passage in my last, from your expressing your surprize at an unacquiescence in my report of condemned Shot in New york and Elizabeth Town. I have made no report, nor shall I until I hear from you again, provided that it be under circumstances in a reasonable time. — I should mention to you that the receipt from Col Stevens who as agent for the War Department receives the Stores in New york is given for 109 twenty four pounders Shot instead of 938 the number I accepted — this must have
