[50] Quincy Aug 24 1799 Sir The recommendations of Lawrence Butler to be Adjutant concern to be known should ultimately refuse his appointment, received in your favour of the 19^th which I received last night from Gen Washington, Gen Morgan and the whole are quite approved to authorize me to consent to the Brothers appointment. I return the recommendations I enclose a letter of the 20^th from John Butler which I recommend to your consideration — I have enclosed a letter to the Secretary of this, from the field of the various recommending the S^d Butler for a chaplain which I beg you to see.
