Sir,
The Secretary of war has requested me to direct you to inspect the Blocks made by Mr Fraley and others, for factious Boxes for the United States — In making this inspection you will omit none to help but such as are distinctly bored and free from cracks; attention must be paid to know that they are properly sized and answer in every particular to the dimensions given, and pattern exhibited.
This busyng will not add to your emoluments but it may be more honrably serviceable. —
I am,
Sir,
your most obedient servant
Samuel Hodgdon
