Sir
I recieve this Moment your letter of the 5.th of April- with an Invoice of clothing for Oswego- had it arrived with the Casks or had you informed me that any articles for Oswego would be sent to me. We might he. would have prevented a Mistake which it was impossible not to commit, as the Hogsheads directed to Niagara did not answer with the Invoice & as No direction could be found on the others. The Situation of this Post was such that an immediate Issue of clothing due took place. & yesterday Summers clothing was delivered also.— The only way I deem to mend in some measure the Matter will be to forward by the first opportunity Such articles as remain on hand & can be spared - I Shall at the Same time transmit an Inventory thereof to you that the charges may be regulated accordingly- The want of a Q.M. is Sensibly felt here.— indeed my health is such that I am afraid I Shall not be able to transact that business as soon as I might wish & the exigencies of Oswego require.— Permit me to request that your letters & Invoices may be Sent under cover of the Secretary of war, as the Postages come very high
With great regard I am
Sir
