Knoxville 1st May 1799.
Sir
I now enclose the Copies of my Waste Book for the Months of January, February & March, being determined to Close my Accounts to the last of December 1798, since having made Progress therein, it is my Opinion it will be best for me to persue my intention And forward on to the War Office a Monthly Statement till I have made the public Accounts Complete to that period.
The Payments of the Militia that has lately Occupied my Present Service has prevented my having finished these Accounts to this time, but I shall exert my self to have them finished as I am desirous to see the [undecipherable] Officers of Government by the ensuing Autumn.
I Also forward the Estimate of Pay due the Military under the Command of Col° Butler to the 31st of March. Having Occasion to go to Tellico within these few days I have not time to examine this estimate at his post, but believe it to be correct, if errors Will Note it or Confirm its accuracy next Post.
You will find by these, the Sum due is [undecipherable] to the [undecipherable] Troops under Col° Butler. is — Eleven Thousand, Seven hundred Seventy nine [undecipherable] Dollars and fifty four Cents — [undecipherable: probable reading: from 1st January to 31st March] Which is Submitted for Consideration
I am Sir your Humble Servt
