By referring to a list of appointments to the old Regiments of Infantry, [undecipherable] some time since, you will find the names of the Captains to the [undecipherable] [five?] Companies [undecipherable] to be added to each of [those?] Regiments by the [undecipherable] [undecipherable] the army of the United States and for [undecipherable] purposes [undecipherable] 16 July 179[8?]. I also transmitted to you the 8 of March [undecipherable], a list of the names of [undecipherable] the Officers of the Army, old establishment, classed according to their [respective?] regiments or troops, with the dates of their Commissions [undecipherable] will shew you the Officers belonging to each of these Regiments. Lieut Col. Butler, who commands on the frontier of Ten[nessee?], [undecipherable] [enables?] to recruit the two additional companies and has [undecipherable] for money and instructions.
