Sir,
When the orders from the War Office for the delivery of Stores to me for transportation are complied with, a new order of things commences; subsequent orders for the same will be in favour of the Quarter Master General: For such he will provide transportation, and you will charge the articles immediately to him, his receipts will be taken for them, and he will take the receipts of those who are to transport them; for this purpose, in addition to the receipt taken of him in your Book, it will be proper to hand him through the transporter an Invoice of the articles delivered on his order. This mode to be invariably attended to, as he alone is held accountable for all Stores belonging to his department, and the safe transportation and delivery to order of all others committed to him. —
I am,
Sir,
your most obedient servant.
Mr John Harris. Signed Samuel Hodgdon.

Enclosed you have Bill of Lading and Invoice of sundry Medicines and Hospital Stores destined for the Troops at Virginia, shipped to your address on board the Schooner Sophia, [undecipherable] [undecipherable] Master, who I expect sails this day — On receipt of them you will be pleased to provide transportation and re-ship them to Capt. Michael G. Houdin in Albany who will receive the necessary instructions respecting them — you will pay the freight to York agreeable to the Bill of Lading, and charge the amount with your disbursements in the Quarter Masters Department — The Sale of the place is postponed for a few days. I will keep a look out and do what is proper in the business —
your &c
Samuel Hodgdon.
