A Place for My Son John
Document 1799Perkins' son John is dissatisfied with his current employment so Perkins asks Hodgdon to find John a position as an apprentice in some Philadelphia mercantile house in the shipping line.

Coln Samuel Hodgdon Philadelphia Harpers Ferry 4th April 1799 Dear Sir I have taken the liberty of troubleling you with a few lines to request the favour of you to get a place for my Son John as an apprentice in some Mercantal House in your City in your City, who are in the Shipping line, he is dissatisfied here and wishes to be brought up in that line, and as you are acquainted wiht all the good Houses in Phlada, as your self I know no Person so capable of doing me this Service as yourself, for which if you will take the trouble you shall have my and his best thanks. I must further request that you will favour me with a line by way of answer to this Letter, and I shall acknowledge my self Sir Your much Obidged Hume Svt.. Joseph Perkin
