W Church is appointed an Ensign, but has not rec^d a commission. He is the only officer in this neighbourhood; and if stationed could undoubtedly recruit considerably. There is in the post office in this town a letter from you directed to Alpheus Cheney. There is not in this part of the State any family of that name — probably Stukbridge is mistaken for Sturbridge, in a near which place the family of Cheney resides. The friends of M^r Mackay & himself are disappointed at the failure of his appointment.
