Manufacturing Arms at the Springfield Armory
Document 1799Ames provides an assessment of arms production at the Springfield Armory. Though he has manufactured as many as seventeen muskets per month, it appears that during the current month he will produce thirteen due probably to the inexperience of the workmen. It also appears that he can make muskets at a lower cost than that of private contractors provided there are no unnecessary expenses.
