Kallam sails for Jamaica about y^e 18 inst; I will look out for him when he returns, and call him to account for the articles in his possession — With respect to Maj. Howe's business, I have not been able to speak him, but have sent him a message desiring him to call on me, and hope [from him to] be able [to] give you some information, respecting Craig's note, but am apprehensive it will prove a bad Debt — I purchas'd some time ago, a quantity of Powder by desire of the Sec^y of the Treasury, (say [undecipherable] Tons) for which service he agreed to allow me a com[mission of] [undecipherable] half percent, and have forwarded him [a] correct account of the Same, but have not the pleasure of receiving a line from him since. I would thank you to mention the circumstance — I shall observe to him that the like compensation was allow'd to M^r Delafield for purchasing that Article. — I have had some conversation with Gen^l. Hamilton on the Subject of the compensation to be allow'd me for my Services, he ask'd me — $2000 — p^r Annum, would do; I thought not, but I think it a sum quite insufficient — [undecipherable] — [undecipherable] nothing since has transpired in this business, what I am really anxious to have Settled — You have made no mention respecting the Arms I inspected, which are still remaining in my Store — I have taken Command of a Reg[imen]t of Artillery, belonging to this City, I would thank you, when any private opportunity presents, forward me any such — With a tender of my respects to your family, and I remain Dear Sir Your M[ost] H[umb]l[e] [signature: undecipherable] P.S.
