[undecipherable]] [order[s] of] [March 27 & [undecipherable] [undecipherable]] [[43]] [W] General Orders Adjutant Generals Office New York March 27. 1798 The following regulations have been adopted by Major General Hamilton and are to govern the issuing drawing and receipt of the [undecipherable] from [undecipherable] [undecipherable] McHenry. All Returns are to be [undecipherable] to the Deputy [undecipherable] to the [undecipherable] Pay Master General in the District [undecipherable] the [undecipherable] Situation Agent may be [undecipherable] ultimately to the [undecipherable] commanding General. The Deputy Pay Master General hereby [undecipherable: intrusted] as the [undecipherable] under the command of the [undecipherable] of [undecipherable] Regiment, who his [undecipherable] at Pittsburgh [undecipherable] [undecipherable] Major Benjamin Williamson is Deputy Pay Master General to [undecipherable] and is [undecipherable] [undecipherable] under the immediate command of Major General [undecipherable]. The [undecipherable] Duty to be called upon by each Deputy Pay Master General according to the instructions he shall receive from the Pay Master General. Officers in the [undecipherable] [undecipherable] [undecipherable] on their own responsibility [undecipherable] Returns for the [undecipherable] designating the [undecipherable] for the company or Regiment to which they belong. Returns of the stores [undecipherable] under the [undecipherable] are to be accounted for by the [undecipherable] of [undecipherable] and [undecipherable] Officers [undecipherable] connect those of [undecipherable] upon which Returns they [undecipherable] in the [undecipherable] Pay Master General the [undecipherable] and [undecipherable] from the nearest [undecipherable] the Returns are not intitled [undecipherable] to be called upon for [undecipherable] Officers [undecipherable] or [undecipherable] to [undecipherable] Pay Master of the Regiment [undecipherable] them. The [undecipherable] Clothing [undecipherable] and the Returns [undecipherable] on account of [undecipherable] are to be made regularly by the [undecipherable] Company [undecipherable] Detachments or by [undecipherable] Pay Master to [undecipherable] on Detachments [undecipherable] in the Returns of the Officer Commanding them respectively, which when [undecipherable] should be countersigned by the Officer Commanding the Regiment or Corps [undecipherable] but no Clothing is to be issued to the Captain of the Company [undecipherable] for men actually present with it. [undecipherable] Officer Commanding [undecipherable] Returns of the men present on his Return [undecipherable] to the Pay Master of the Regiment to which they belong. unless when an officer is specially appointed to furnish the [undecipherable]. The Pay Master [undecipherable] each Regiment or Corps [undecipherable] upon [undecipherable] receipt of [undecipherable] sufficient [undecipherable] the Officers of the Regiment or Corps [undecipherable] may be [undecipherable] Detailed with him, under there command, other [undecipherable] the [undecipherable] in order that the necessary Returns may be made [undecipherable] the Clothing furnished by the Pay Master. Nothing is not to [undecipherable] an Officer Commanding a Company or Detachment for men [undecipherable] Furlough, nor for [undecipherable] Non commissioned Officers or Soldiers who may be [undecipherable] Detailed [undecipherable] particular duty, nor for [undecipherable] for his salary, may be [undecipherable] to Officers and [undecipherable] [undecipherable] Battalion Regiment, [undecipherable] or [undecipherable] [undecipherable] commanding [undecipherable] Officers or [undecipherable] his [undecipherable] or [undecipherable] or [undecipherable] Company [undecipherable] Officer [undecipherable] Commanding for [undecipherable] or [undecipherable] of Regiment, or for the Commanding Officer [undecipherable] of a Company or Detachment will be [undecipherable] the receipt of the [undecipherable] Commanding Officer the receipt [undecipherable] additional [undecipherable] this must be [undecipherable] to the Pay Master to the Agent for the allowances [undecipherable] by him [undecipherable] his Captain or Commanding Officer. Regimental Pay Masters [undecipherable] wherever [undecipherable] Stations and [undecipherable] they are to be responsible for the sole keeping of [undecipherable] and Commanding Officers of Regiments and Companies are [undecipherable] all Clothing in [undecipherable] in consequence of Deaths [undecipherable] or [undecipherable] to [undecipherable] to be delivered. These Regulations are [undecipherable] by the [undecipherable] upon [undecipherable] Returns they [undecipherable] Pay Master General, the [undecipherable] and [undecipherable] from the nearest location [undecipherable] the Returns are not intitled [undecipherable] to be called upon for [undecipherable] Officers [undecipherable] must be [undecipherable] upon the Officers [undecipherable] to [undecipherable] not return [undecipherable] commanding [undecipherable] to [undecipherable] Pay Master of the [undecipherable]. The [undecipherable] Military Stores [undecipherable] to be sent to the [undecipherable] Pay Master General or the Deputy Pay Master General of the District. [undecipherable] Command and Captain of the [undecipherable] Regiment of Infantry as Deputy [undecipherable] Master General to the [undecipherable] under the immediate Command of Major General [undecipherable]. *The [undecipherable] Officers within a District whose Returns are to be made for any [undecipherable] articles of [undecipherable] charged with the care of having them furnished within the limits of the [undecipherable] Regulations respecting them. Samuel [undecipherable: Hodgdon] [undecipherable] at Philadelphia, Superintendent of military Stores is to be required for all [undecipherable] supplies which are not furnished by the [undecipherable] Master General or [undecipherable] by the [undecipherable] of the War Department will [undecipherable] for [undecipherable] by the [undecipherable] obtaining drawing the [undecipherable] either on hand or wanting are to be made, to him with[undecipherable] further [undecipherable]. The General Returns to be made at stated periods are [undecipherable] other stores in Deposit are [undecipherable] from this [undecipherable] ultimately to the [undecipherable] by the [undecipherable] to [undecipherable] they are in the first instance to be [undecipherable] by [undecipherable] Master [undecipherable] Adjutant General at the [undecipherable] of the Government. All Monthly Inspection & Recruiting Returns [undecipherable] regulations [undecipherable] the Commanding [undecipherable] are to be [undecipherable] with [undecipherable] the first [undecipherable] instance to [undecipherable] or Acting [undecipherable] of the principal Officers to whom they are required to be [undecipherable] and [undecipherable] of the particular [undecipherable] Commanding [undecipherable] to [undecipherable] into the matter and [undecipherable] the [undecipherable] intent of this order.
