Philadelphia, 26th March, 1799.
Sir,
By accident I have discovered that certain articles for the Cavalry equipments which will be called for, are not in the public Store — Valices and Sharpisions with Straps, too are entirely destitute of — One hundred of each will probably be equal to the present call, but I am of Opinion that twice the number should be procured and placed in the public Store — We have 169 pairs of Holsters on hand without covers — there it would seem best also to provide to complete the Saddles to which they are attached — Nose Bags, I believe have been provided if not, one hundred of them will be necessary —
I am,
Sir,
your most obt Servant
Saml Hodgdon.
James McHenry, Esqt.
Secretary of War —
Sir, Philadelphia 27 March, 1799.
To pay my acceptances on six Bills drawn on me by the Quarter Master General, and to meet other calls hourly occurring, I request a warrant in his favour for Five thousand Dollars —
With respect and esteem
I am,
Sir.
James McHenry, Esqt. your most obedient Servant,
Samuel Hodgdon.
