Sir Inclosed is a Statement of The Public Stores received [undecipherable: probable reading "& Issues"] since the 20 Oct^r. 1797 to the 20^th day of this Ins^t. The issues to L^t. Manchalk & Cap^t Miller were at one delivery, but to M^r. Bode I find there has been thirty different deliveries. I have made entries only in such cases where the Stores have actually been receipted for by me and at the particular request of the Officers [undecipherable] in my possession. Sundry Stores have been sent here that have been put into my Store House and afterwards been forwarded agreeably to the instructions of the Officers to whom they were directed, with respect to such no entry has by me been made. Hogsheads or Boxes remaining entire causing [undecipherable] little or no risque but after being opened and continuing so there is certainly a very considerable one, and in [undecipherable: probable reading "proportion"] to the responsibility and trouble the compensation [undecipherable] ought to be. I have been obliged to [undecipherable: probable reading "open"] an Apartment [undecipherable: probable reading "solely"] for the safe keeping of the Stores and in the Summer Season I thought it necessary several times to examine the [undecipherable] fearing they might receive injury from Moth and eventually had to [undecipherable] [undecipherable] among them. My Account to the close of the year 1798 accompanies this which I flatter myself will not be considered unreasonable.
