Philadelphia. 26 March, 1799.
Sir,
Since mine enclosing an order on Major Lang-
ham for all the Stores on hand, I have found it necessary to
forward as many Common Tents to Pittsburg from there: he has
as will make a fair load for a waggon, suppose two hundred.
I have thought it best to communicate this subsequent order
through you— it is enclosed, and you will please to forward
it as early as possible —
The Weather is now growing to be pleasant
and invites to a commencement of the operations on public accom-
at your Post, the Canal in particular claims immediate atten-
tion— I have written to Mr Brindley on Communications
all I have to offer on that subject— I hope he is, or will
be with you soon —
I am, Sir,
your most obedient Servant
Samuel Hodgdon
Mr John Mackey —
Sir, Philadelphia, 26 March, 1799.
Since my last to you of the 11th Instante,
I have found it necessary to forward a load of Common Tents from
your Post to Pittsburg, of this I have informed Mr Mackey — On
the receipt of this letter, you will be pleased to procure a Stout
waggon to send on a fair load— two hundred or more as the
waggon may be able to Store, for the weight will not be
equal to that generally taken on — the expence attending the
transportation shall be paid as soon as the amount is known;
you will address the Tents to Major Isaac Craig, and your
agreeable to the waggoner draw on him for the transportation;
in this case you will send him a transcript of this letter as
a warrant for his so doing — Yours &c
Major Elias Langham — S. Hodgdon
