Philadelphia, 19^th March 1799 S^ir I wrote you a few days ago relative to Smith's Store, in which the Caspias Store were deposited, in my last I requested you to lock up and return the Key. Last evening I had another message from M^r Smith on that business, by which I learn that he considers the Store as on Rent to the United States. This will be a serious business, for certain I am they will pay no Rent since the sale of the Ship, you therefore will stand chargeable, and I advise you to move in the business immediately — at all events return the Key, or formerly give up the Store. — I am Sir, your most obedient Servant, Samuel Hodgdon Col W^m Nichols — Philadelphia 19^th March. 1799.
