Sir,
I wrote you a few days ago relative to Smith's Store, in which the Capias Storm were deposited; in my letter I requested you to lock up and return the Key. Last evening I had another message from Mr Smith on that business, by which I learn that he considers the Store as on Rent to the United States. This will be a serious business, for I am sure they will pay no Rent since the Sale of the Ship; you therefore will stand chargeable, and I advise you to move in the business immediately — at all events return the Key, or formally give up the Store. —
I am, Sir,
your most obedient Servant,
Samuel Hodgdon
Col. Wm. Nichols —
