Philadelphia. March 14. 1799
Dear Friend.
Your letter of the 11 Ulto announcing the safe arrival of the post Note came to hand.
I immediately should have answered it but a multiplicity of business at the close of the session prevented me.
I called on Mr Salter and requested information respecting your pictures he told me he had shipped them on board a Vessel called the [underline: Rising Sun] about three Weeks after you left town — he did not recollect the Captain name — I hope you have received them before this —
The reports you had respecting the yellow fevers were groundless. Not a patient has been admitted into the Hospital — I believe some few may have died in the beginning of the Winter — but I have heard of no case for a considerable time — indeed we have had such a cold winter and immensity of Snow as most certainly has eradicated all the seeds of the disorder — We have now Snow 6 Ins deep —
I suppose you have seen the account of the capture of the Insurgente french frigate — I hope your frigate may have the same success as the Constellation —
Mr Klingle was down here about a month ago — he was in town a few days. I had not the pleasure of seeing him — he called at our house — but I was at the Office — I understand that the family are all well — I was in hopes to have seen Mr Klingle here this winter but I believe I must now give up the expectation
I enclose you a letter from Betsy to Julia —
Our family are all well — and wish to be remembered to you —
I am Sir
Your obed Servt
