Philadelphia 25.^th Feby 1799 Sir, I have examined the Accounts & Vouchers presented by M^r Glen, those that are produced to account for the Seven hundred and Fifty Dollars for which he Hands charged on the Books of the Accountant should be presented to M^r Simmons for adjustment— And for the discharge of several other claims, for which M^r Glen says he is responsible in consequence of his Agency, amounting to four hundred and twenty Dollars, it Seems proper a Warrant should issue in his favor, to enable him to make payment and obtain vouchers for a full adjustment of his disbursements to the present time— I return the Papers— I am Sir Your Most Obedient Servant Samuel Hodgdon James M^cHenry Esq. Sir— Colonel Joseph Williams Principal at the Post in Springfield applies for the following supplies of the best quality Rolled Iron for the Public Works under his direction— Vizt Half a ton five tenths of an inch wide two & one third of a tenth thick— One ton, three & half tenths of an inch Square— Half a ton four and half tenths of an inch thick and five tenths of an inch wide— Will you be pleased to direct the purchase of the above, to be deposited in the Public Store here until suitable transportation can be procured? By a letter rec^d from Col Stevens this morning I am inform'd he has received of M^r Watson the Cases of Muskets and Casks of Flints for which an order was sent him a few days ago— three Stand of Arms, four Worms and eighty priming Wires appear to be deficient in the number mentioned in the Invoice— He says further that the Muskets cannot be considered more than Merchantable, that the weights & Calibre answer to the Charlesville Muskets, and that the which want Cleaning immediately for which he requests an order— James M^cHenry Esq^r Secretary of War.
