Sir I have the morning while in the execution of the duties of my Office been most grof[?]ly insulted by Samuel b Vance Captain in the 8. United States Regiment. I understand that his Office is shortly to leave this City. I therefore have to request that he be immediately arrested, subject to my bringing forward the proper charges against him which I will do as soon as I can collect a statement of the allegations in Writing from the several persons who were present at the time the insult was offered to me —
