Dr Sir,
I have received your letter of the 16th inst this morning.
It is not in my power to send you the distribution you ask for as contained in the report made to me in December, [undecipherable] by the Commander in Chief. The distribution [strikethrough: of the States you have been furnished] [strikethrough: I have formerly in many] [strikethrough: by my] instructions [strikethrough: because] dated the 4th inst, contains whatever the Commander in Chief [strikethrough: here] said [strikethrough: on his subject. His answer to my [undecipherable]] [strikethrough: last report.] on this subject. It omitted entirely [undecipherable] any [undecipherable] stations to 4 Regts of the Infantry and the Cavalry. If you have any notes which will enable me to understand the intentions of the Commander in Chief on this point I shall [strikethrough: be] thank you to send them to me as soon as possible.
I am, Dr Sir
Yours [undecipherable]
