Sir,
I recd your letter of the first Inst with the
enclosed Invoice of Public Stores and Articles
therein specified — With respect to my passage —
the Captain thinks that I am to pay for Stores myself
twenty five Dollars, and that the United States are
only to pay for my birth in the Cabin — I think it
is hard that I have to pay so much for my passage
when in the Public Service, [strikethrough: undecipherable] [undecipherable]
I have paid the twenty five Dollars for Stores —
if it is proper the United States should pay it, I shall —
expect you will remit the money to me by the first
opportunity —
