Whereas the sum of forty dollars is claimed by Saml. Hodgdon Esqre. Superintendant of public Stores on behalf of the United States from Mr. Jacob Death as a balance due from him on account of Work to be done for the said United States at Pittsburgh which the said Saml Hogdon alledges has not been performed according to the agreement, I do hereby agree to be Responsible for the payment of the said sum of forty dollars if upon full investigation of the affair it shall be found to be due from the said Death as above stated in Witness my Hand at Baltimore the 11th day of February 1799
