[Docket notation, top right of address leaf: Major Gen[era]l Craig / Pittsburg / 1^st Feb[rua]ry] Samuel Hodgdon Esquire Philadelphia Pittsburg 1^st February 1799 Dear Sir Your letter of the 25^th Ultimo is this moment come to hand — With respect to Governor Sargent's property I have no doubt of its going forward by Ensign Cook, in whom I repose a Special Confidence, and who had particular instruction respecting the Governors Stores — A favourable Change of Weather which has removed every obstruction to the Navigation of our River has Enabled me to send forward all the Stores destined for the Posts on the Mississippi Except a few Shot & Shells — A Copy of the Invoice of Stores thus sent forward I have this day transmitted to the [undecipherable: Qr M Gen] & a Duplicate to the [undecipherable: Secy] of War, I Expected to have by this [undecipherable: mail] transmitted A Gen[era]l Return up to the End of the last Year, but has been prevented the A. [undecipherable: Dll Master] at this post not having yet made his Rep-ort to me — I have this day found it necessary to Draw on you in favour of Gen[era]l Nevill for two thousand Dollars at Eight days which be pleased to pay & Charge as Usual — In the Course of sending forward Supplies I hope Clothing will not be neglected and I hope it will be recollected that I made an Early Report of the great deficiency that appeared on comparing the Generals Requisition with Clothing received — Capt. Torrence is picking up Recruits almost daily & not one Suit of Clothes on for them — Some time ago requested a Supply of Sugar & Coffee I hope it has not Escaped your Memory.
