Treasury Department, Comptroller's Office, January 29, 1799.— Sir, It has been represented to me by the Quarter Master General, that you had declined acting on such part of his expenditures as were heretofore suspended from his credit on settlements made at the Treasury.— As it would be highly inconvenient and irregular, after having finally closed his accompt on the books of the Treasury, for its Officers to take up and act upon such suspended charges, in the first instance, I have directed the Register to select from the accompts heretofore adjusted, all such vouchers as shall have been suspended and to transmit them forthwith to your Office; and it is my request that you will receive and take the same order on them, as if such suspensions had been made by yourself.— I am, Sir, very respectfully, Your Ob: Serv^t: [signature: undecipherable] William Simmons Esquire.
