[Document bears heavy cancellation marks throughout] [undecipherable] June 24^th 1799 Dear Sir, I have persuaded my self I shall be [justify'd] in [undecipherable] and [undecipherable] about [writing] to you — and [that] I may not be [advised] that you will be kind enough to lend me your [assistance] in getting Lieut [Farmichael?] whom I have been [unfortunate] enough to have attached to my Company removed from it — I deem it Superfluous to make any remarks upon this Gentleman and charge to you or to assign any reason why he is highly obnoxious to me. You saw & heard enough of him whilst in Trenton to render this unnecessary. I have born with his ignorance & Stupidity till my patience has become exhausted & I do assure you my situation will be very unpleasant till we are separated. I think you will agree with me in opinion that the burthen of him [in all?] ought to be equitably sustained & not saddled entirely upon the shoulders of any one. [undecipherable] who knows my other duty is enough for one person but the two together are beyond toleration. Do my dear Sir try what you can do for me. If you will get this business arranged & [thus] [undecipherable] you [undecipherable]. There is a Lieut [Read?] [of the Corps?] who is without any Subaltern [undecipherable] kind therefore he might be assigned without the least shadow of partiality.
