Simmons [undecipherable signature] I certify that Mary Fountain was employ'd under my directions in attendance on the Sick at Bedlows Island from the 10^th of September to the 18^th of October — 1798 — Sam Osbon [undecipherable] Decm.^r 24^th [undecipherable] 8^th Reg.^t Art.^l [undecipherable] After the above date (18^th October) Doctor Dwight took charge of the Sick on Bedlows Island, and when I have occasionally visited I have observed the same Nurse in attendance [signature] Cap.^t John Henry I do certify that the above named Mary Fountain was employed in attendance on the sick soldiers belonging to the detachment of the 2^d Regiment of Artillerists and Engineers under my command in the garrison of Bedlows Island from the tenth day of September 'till the 24^th day of December 1798 at which last period the sick were removed to the hospital at Governor's Island when her services were no longer necessary.
