Sir
In answer to your letter of yesterday I observe, that we have on hand at the several Posts as appears by the enclosed upwards of Fifteen thousand Cartouch Boxes, from this Statement, Thirty five thousand will be wanted to compleat a full Supply for fifty thousand Men — But as it is probable the whole of those inserted in the Return may not be fit for use though returned as good — I would recommend the making a Contract for forty thousand which will insure a full supply for the Army contemplated
