[Private] [Received from State Dep^t. Nov. 24. 1804] [10] Pittsburg January 11^th 1799. Dear Sir, Your letter of the 11^th Inst is this moment come to hand — I have reason to believe that the Boat and Cargo in charge of Judge McGuire destined for Natchez has reached the falls of Ohio in Safety from which place the Navigation of the river is less dangerous — On the 9^th I accepted Capt W^m H. Harrison's draft on the D. Mr. Gen for four hundred fifty Dollars in favor of James McCluney — And the discharge thereof have drawn on you for that sum at eight days sight — And in order to enable Capt Cornelius Lyman to remit three hundred Dollars to the Hon'ble W^m Shepard in Congress I have this day drawn on you in his favour at eight days sight for that sum — And I have also this day in order to enable me to discharge the several claims against the Quarter Master's Department — drawn on you in favour of John Neville Esq^r Inspector of the Revenue at five days sight for two thousand Dollars — These three Drafts amounting to two thousand seven hundred & fifty Dollars be pleased to pay & charge to Acc^t of the D.Q.Mr. Gen^l The Ice in our River has not yet moved — it is nevertheless probable that two or three days continuance of the present mild weather will again render the Ohio navigable — Your obed^t ble Serv^t Isaac Craig Samuel Hodgdon Esq^r Philadelphia
