Dear Knox
I have received your letter of the 4th inst and a bill on Bickham & [undecipherable] for 1625 [strikethrough: Dolls] which has been accepted.
You have told me some truths, in reminding me of what I had forgot and how much I have neglected my private interest. Upon looking back, I find I have [strikethrough: neglected and] sacrificed a great deal too much for an individual. [strikethrough: I have] I had not I assure you however forgot the wine. I know you took charge of four pipes and either one or two quarter casks, and I hope we shall have the pleasure of drinking a good deal of it together
for my mind is fixed on spending my days in or near Baltimore whenever I retire from my present laborious and thankless station.
I sympathise with you on the loss you have sustained; but I expect it will only delay for a very short time your visit to Philada.
Yours truly & sincerely
James McHenry
