S I R,
[undecipherable] of [undecipherable] HAVE the honor to inform you that the Prefident, by and with the advice and confent of the Senate, has appointed you a Captain of [undecipherable: Infantry] in the army of the United States.
You are requefted to inform me, as foon as convenient, whether you accept or not the appointment, that I may notify the fame to the Prefident.

To obviate mifconception, it is proper to mention that a want of materials having prevented a complete nomination and appointment of the whole number of officers for the troops to be raifed, the Prefident has thought it advifeable to referve the fubject of their relative rank for future arrangement.
