Sir
I have received your letter of the 30th Ultimo. I feel uneasy for the state of the Boat that has been forwarded with the Stores. I hope to have a good account of her in your next. Capt. Miller will know the reasons that his Company were not fully supplied with Clothing. In the first place they were not in Store, and in the next, he was ordered to march as light as possible, that the Detatchment might not be detained on the road. As soon as a full supply of clothing is received, a quantity will be sent to you as usual to meet such calls. The Secretary of Wars Report relative to the Army, has been read in Congress, and committed, but not yet published. Great alterations are contemplated

Major I Craig Samuel Hodgdon
Philadelphia 5th January 1799.
Sir,
Your Brother Levi has been kind enough to undertake to get on a Box containing two Pattern Muskets, to Baltimore, and deliver them to John Kilty Esq. Supervisor of the Revenue there. He informs me he has sent them to you for this purpose — I will thank you Sir, if the ordinary mode of conveyance of such Articles is impeded by the severity of the weather, to put them into one of the regular Stage Waggons and send them that way if you can, or in any other conveyance that will insure their getting Safely and Speedily to hand — the expences attending the Transportation shall be paid with thanks for your attention. by your Most Obedient Servt
