Jan^y 1799 / William Simmons Esq^r / Acc^t Dep^t of War] [seal] [seal] [Rec^d [undecipherable] Jan^y [undecipherable]] Phil^a 4^th Jan^y 1799 Sir I have been honoured with yours dated yesterday— The vouchers for the expenditure of cash in the Qr Mast Department for the last six months, have not yet been received & made up for settlement— those for the respective posts which I had rec^d I left at Pittsburgh, until those from the more remote posts should be transmitted, so that the whole should be included in one abstract— I hope by the first of March next to be able to send an account for settlement up to the beginning of the year— The posts of a distant nature & at those where considerable expenditures are made, are so situated as during the winter Season to have all communication to be interrupted. There have been a number of my Vouchers suspended by the Comptroller, which have been transmitted to your office— I beg that they may be soon taken up, that— while I am present proper explanations may be made & which will tend to a compleat understanding of the subject, & future difficulties may be avoided — I am, Sir, respectfully your ob^t s^t J.
