Pittsburg. 3rd January 1799
Sir,
I have this moment received your favour of the 7th Ulto accompanied by two letters, which go forward as addressed this day — I expect by next post to transmit a Return up to the end of the year, together with a part of the Papers formerly required — those respecting the Commissary Department, I feel particularly anxious to have settled — but for that purpose, Vouchers for Issues at Marietta I have not yet been able to obtain — The Provisions at that post were given in charge of Mr Joseph Buck, recommended by Colo Sproat who commanded — but whom I have not yet been able to urge to a settlement but shortly expect to effect it, as well as the provisions at Beaver Blockhouse —
On Wednesday next the Decease of General Washington is to be commemorated with Military Honours and all other due respect by the Citizens of Pittsburg & its Neighbourhood. — The Monongahela is now shut up with Ice.
Samt Hodgdon esq I am Sir your very obed Serv
