in the Account there are ten Dollars stated, to have been paid to Charles Farley for Bounty and you have transmitted receipts from him for sixteen Dollars. It will be necessary that you obtain & transmit William & Harbins receipt for two Dollars that you state to have paid for an attachment against him; you state four Dollars Bounty paid to Abiel Abbey and transmitted his receipt, but for two Dollars, and thirteen Cents; you state ten Dollars paid, to Stephen Dorsey and transmitted his receipt but for said Dollars, you have not transmitted any evidence of Soldiers having reinlisted who have you stated the Bounty as such in your account, you have not in all cases withheld four Dollars Bounty from your recruits until they were transferred to the Company or Corps in which they were to serve; I have to request an explanation of the aforesaid defects & remarks in your next Letter so as to enable the stating of the accounts as soon as possible —
I observe you have promoted & made up for pay a fifth Sergeant in your Detachment, when the law allows but four to a Company. I have admitted it for this time, but will require some explanation of the necessity before it can be continued —
