Report of the Secretary of the Treasury stating revenue and expenditures
Document 1798Tobias Lear, George Washington's personal secretary, transmits to James McHenry a report of the Secretary of the Treasury stating the revenue and expenditures of the nation. Lear also reports that Washington requests three or four blank books to record his military letters.

I have the honor to transmit to you the Report of the Secretary of the Treasury, stating the permanent Revenues and the permanent Expenditures of the United States, - his general statement of Receipts and Expenditures, and the Report of the Committee of Ways and Means - The Return of Military Stores &c made by the Superintendant, the Commander in Chief keeps - and a copy of the above Report of the Secy of the Treasury is also reserved.
Enclosed is a letter to the Superintendant of Military Stores &c which the
