Sir Philadelphia 20^th December 1798 The Accountant, William Simmons, has exhibited another Statement for Articles purchased by you as Agent to the War Department between the 1^st Sept^r & 30^th November of the present year, for the due application of which you are to Account with me agreeably to the mode now pursuing. Your General Return of articles received, or delivered, or expended with a direct Account for the whole, & for official knowledge of this I wish to receive it as early as possible. Sir, My quarterly accounts are due the last of this month, and thank you for yours, what may spare, that the advance account with you may be closed — Colonel Strong writes me — that the Clothing sent from hence in September 1797, did not arrive with him until August 1798, being Eleven months in the route, and that from this cause notwithstanding the whole were packed in tight Casks, many of the Coats and Woolen Overalls were damaged — Pack N^o 19. containing 100 [undecipherable: Privates] Woolen Overalls, and 100 Privates Vests, important part of Clothing, have not arrived on the 30 August last, the date of his Letter, there must be something wrong in this business, which I pray you to explain to me. — I am, Sir your most obedient Servant, Henry Glen, Esq^r — (signed) Samuel Hodgdon —
