I was not aware that Sleys could be procured at Poughkeepsie to take the Clothing all the way to Oswego, or I should undoubtedly have advised its being done — I have written to Albany to make the provision from thence; but I recommend your making a conditional bargain with the Sleymen at Poughkeepsie to take them through, provided it does not interfere with any arrangement made by Capⁿ Heudin at Albany to whom I have written on the subject — I shall much prefer your mode as the most certain, and as it promises a saving of time, a circumstance in the present case of importance — I have not heard any thing relative to your proposals; but I shall probably be able to inform you in the course of a day or two whether they have been successful — I shall certainly continue my business with your Store — I am, Sir, your most obedient servant, Samuel Hodgdon — M^r Melaneton Smith — New york —
