Recommendation for constructing a canal
Document 1798Letter of recommendation for Morris Delaney, whose service will be used to built a canal on the Potomac for Harper's Ferry. Recommends Delaney for his "fidelity, sobriety, and attention to his business."
Tobias Lear 13th December Rec’d 14 1798 Recommendation &c Mr. Delaney to work on the Canal L L 1798 Saml Hodgdon Superintendent of Military Stores 227 Sir, This will be handed to you by Mr. Morris Delaney, who has been employed in the Canal & lock work in the Susquehanna & on the Potomac - he is a steady faithful man, and gave satisfaction in the Service of the Potomac Company. Should such a person be wanting at Harper’s Ferry I can venture to recommend Mr. Delaney, for fidelity sobriety and attention to his business as a lock master &c.
