West Point, Dec.^r 7.^th 1798 Sir Last night I received your letter of the 29 ultimo, inclosing of the United States Office an acc.^t current dated the [undecipherable] of [undecipherable] the balance [undecipherable] to it in favor of said States one hundred & eight dollars & 63 cents. In the said account current is mentioned on the debit side "1797 Dec.^r 13. So balance due on settlement this day 192 dollars of 60 cents." I have not received an acc.^t current from you since the one you delivered to me in Philadelphia dated the 2.^d of March 1797. I would thank you for the acc.^t current you allude to from the 2.^d of March to the 1.^st of December 1797. By my books I find a small balance in my favor from the War & Treasury Departments, agreeably to the vouchers the Auditor of the Treas.^y & you have received from me, including M.^rs O'Hale [undecipherable]'s receipt which receipt I have no doubt but the Secretary of War will sanction, and exclusive of the powder magazine buildings & my salary from the 1.^st of last July. I think you will find I am right in my calculation. — Privately without presumption, for promotion I settle other business that I could not consistently with my duty perform, which I can demonstrate to any person, has solely prevented my getting the remainder of the vouchers ready ready to send. You may depend upon receiving them in two or three weeks. Herewith you will receive the [undecipherable] detachments muster & pay rolls for October & November last. Thomas Hughes the Blacksmiths receipt for his pay from the 6.^th of May to the 30.^th of Sept.^r last amount 143 dollars of 50 cents, and a package of vouchers with an account of them dated the 2.^d ultimo, for monies I disbursed for rebuilding a part of the Stone wall of the powder magazine in Old Fort Clinton, amount 203 dollars of 97 cents. — I am, Sir, Your most obedient Humble servant Geo Fleming William Simmons Esquire.
